This image shows the connection to the buns and plaits images I have found in one of my hair books. I have chosen to look at this image form the Elizabethan era because the hair of the lady is very neat, and shows a historical take on buns and plaits, which are included in some of the techniques I have been learning. These contemporary images show a modern take on the Elizabethan buns and plaits.
These images of buns illustrate the different and sometimes complex way to create a bun and hold the hair. In the Elizabethan era the hair would have been neatly tied into a tight bun at the back of the head to hide the hair and hold it up away fro the face and shoulders. These images show a contemporary take on buns created from plaits.
I have chosen to look at this portrait of Elizabeth as it shows her wearing pearls in her hair for decoration, she would wear all kinds of jewels and pearls to show off her wealth and purity. These decoration techniques are still used today, proved in the selection of images I have hose to look at from a modern hair book. Although the jewels and decoration symbol as changed over time, the fashion and beauty statement has not. This shows how fashion conscious Elizabeth was, which has carried on through time and is a councils thing still thought about immensely today.

These images from the Elizabethan era show the different styles of hair and what was used in the hair for decoration. The hair was very neatly pulled back into tight buns at the back of the head, I have learned these bun techniques in lesson and have practiced the technique on my 'Kate' Doll.
This is another example of a modern look taken from the ideals of the Elizabethan era, the design is made form curling the hair into ringlets and holding them into place with small grips. I have chosen to look at this image because it resembles the hair of Queen Elizabeth herself, although Elizabeth had very small and tight curls this is a new look brought in from historical times.
This shows a portrait of Elizabeth I, her hair is in tight little curls, a look hard to create if the hair isn't naturally this way. The image above shows a contemporary ay to recreated this look, using small sections of hair and tying them into curls.
