Hair fit for the runway
Wild Mushroom Hairdos: Lorenzo Riva's Spring/Summer Runway Show ..., www.trendhunter.com, wild mushrooms hairdos, viewed 23.10.15, (digital image) Lorenzo Riva's Spring/Summer runway show 2010This crazy hairdo was on a 2010 catwalk, I have chosen to look at this because it represents big fashion hair in a new way; it represents big and bold whilst being very different, the hair is more like a waterfall around the face instead of a big afro type taken from Elizabethan era. This style would require a lot of hair extensions, but is definitely inspirational and I want to practice a similar look on a real model.

This shows an image of runway hair that looks like it has been inspired by Queen Elizabeth I, I have been practicing this style of big hair in lessons and have yet to achieve a smooth look. Although Elizabeth had very frizzy hair, this could be a good representation of a contemporary look to and old style.

I have chosen to look at this portrait of an unknown lady to compare to modern day hair styes now used in run way shows and for fashion. This look would have been used in a magazine or television advert due to its odd shape and size, but in historical times this hair was considered everyday wear and was chosen by many women of the 16 th century. The want for big hair came from the inspirational Queen Elizabeth I, as her hair was always big, made form padding or a wig, some of the same techniques used today.
I have used bibs image in my research because the design, colour and makeup of the model reminds me of the style used in the Elizabethan era, the artist of this design has aggregated the look by intensifying the colour and size of the hair, I admire this idea and plan to incorporate something big into my final design.

This is an image of Cheryl Cole, her hair is very big and follows the theme of Elizabethan up do. The size of this hair design and the way it is mainly away from her face in curls shows the link between modern and historical looks.

I like this image, it does well to portray the Elizabethan style of hair but also has a very contemporary feel. Instead of having many little curls created by crimping the hair, it has been created using curling tongs; this gives a much more free and bouncy look and texture. This look has inspired me to use different techniques of curling the hair instead of using crimping.

I have chosen these images to portray the Elizabethan look because they all tie in with the colour and size used back then. In this particular image the hair is pilled on top of the head and a prop would have been used for strength and size. I like the extreme look to all the designs used in the runway. Many modern design have links to hair and makeup used in the Elizabethan era regarding size and colour.
Titian (1490–1576), Portrait of Isabella d'Este circa 1534-1536, Kunsthistorisches Museum, viewed 23.11.15, (digital image), http://www.liveinternet.ru/community/1726655/post320093845
This is a portrait of Isabella D'Este Circa, I have chosen to compare this image of her with others on this page showing contemporary looks because this shows big styled hair was used often in the Elizabethan era, hair was a very important part of looking good, respectable and wealthy. In this particular portrait she is wearing a prop to make her hair much bigger, this is used in modern hair do's to create the same effect.
